KPG is leading an integrated and sustainable architectural design process while preparing construction documents for the new Bow Lake Transfer Station, King County’s next new transfer station scheduled to come on line soon after the First Northeast Transfer Station (also designed by KPG) presently under construction. The Bow Lake facility is designed to replace an existing outmoded transfer station, on a site underlain by a closed solid waste landfill. The resulting facility will include an enclosed transfer station with separate self-haul and commercial customer tipping and vehicle circulation, as well as yard waste and recycling facilities. The new transfer station is planned for phased construction to allow for continued solid waste receiving through the existing facility (since Bow Lake receives the largest waste volumes of any current King County transfer station). KPG has planned for a LEED rating, with the building utilizing natural daylighting and ventilation concepts pioneered on earlier KPG designed transfer stations, as well as rainwater harvesting for use as wash down water. Phased construction, including all site improvements, is estimated at $44M. |
