Cascade View Neighborhood Improvements
City of Tukwila

KPG performed a drainage study in this 150-acre residential neighborhood to determine the source of groundwater and surface water problems throughout the area and develop recommendations for improvements. KPG worked closely with neighborhood residents with a series of public meetings and one-on-one field reviews of problem areas. Alternatives considered included pumping, deep cutoff trenches, and a network of shallow collection trenches, and overall reconstruction of the right of way. The final study included phasing recommendations and cost estimates for new conveyance and groundwater collection trenches as well as roadway and sidewalk replacement.

As a follow up to the basin study, KPG prepared final plans, specifications, and estimates for the recommended improvements. The final design included total reconstruction of over 8,000 linear feet of roadway, curb, gutter, including new storm drainage, water, and sewer utilities. KPG worked closely with residents to identify private property impacts and obtain temporary construction easements from 200 residents. The low bid for the final design was $4.6M, approximately 5% lower than the cost estimated in the original basin analysis and design study.
