Alaska Way Viaduct Tunnel Programming
WSDOT, Seattle, WA
The Alaska Way Viaduct replacement is a $1.96 billion mega-project located along the Seattle, Washington waterfront. The proposed solution for a 1.7 mile deep bore tunnel requires integrated operations and maintenance facilities and complex ventilation structures that meet the prerequisite for efficient and safe tunnel operations. KPG, our architectural and engineering lead, provided a programming solution that is unique and innovative by incorporating the facilities within the constraints of the overall tunnel project while adhering to essential life safety and operational requirements.
