KPG provided master planning, and comprehensive project management, engineering and architectural services for the facility, which opened to public and commercial haulers February 16, 2008.  KPG services included a pro-active public involvement program consisting of voluntary public meetings, workshop, several neighborhood meetings, local Community Councils, 1% for Art, and interest groups.

SRTS achieved a 2008 USGBC LEED NC-2.1 ‘Platinum’ Certification through the USGBC Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System.   The project was recognized by the jury for the 2008 AIA ‘What Makes it Green’ sustainable design awards. The SRTS was most recently awarded "Green Project of the Year" and "Grand Project of the Year" by the Northwest Construction Consumers Council.
