BACK / SOUTHWEST RECYCLING & TRANSFER STATION REMODEL
KPG as prime led the design efforts to make several improvements at the existing Southwest Recycling and Transfer Station (SWRTS) facility. Improvements included: scale queuing indicators and over height protection at the scale facility, fully enclosing the facility to prevent noise pollution, installation of new daylighting fixtures, and the construction of extended acoustic barriers outside of the facility to improve the transfer stations relationship neighborhood residences. The successful result reduced noise and odor pollution measured at neighbor residences. Careful consideration was taken to prevent vehicles from colliding with the newly enclosed portions of the structure and to provide ventilation and daylighting and minimize the need for additional lighting or HVAC systems that would normally be upgraded when enclosing a structure.
