Burien Town Square
A Vision Transforms into the Heart of Downtown
KPG assisted the City of Burien with redeveloping their downtown into a vibrant, urban district. We focused on defining the City’s expectations and collaboratively created a plan that brought the vision to life. The Burien Town Square project added a new city hall, library and park for city residents.
KPG designed the town square streets, including utilities, decorative illumination, traffic signals, sidewalks, ADA facilities, and an extensive streetscape. Placemaking elements included two raised concrete intersections, custom planters, railings, district branding signs. Additionally, KPG designed a large rain garden in Town Square Park that allows stormwater capacity for private development, park aesthetics and an educational tool for the community.
As a part of this project, KPG served as the City’s representative and Project Engineer. We acted as a liaison between multiple contractors and utility providers for the City Hall, King County library project and phase one of the Urban Partners development project. The successful coordination of all of these project simultaneously resulted in the continued revitalization and vibrancy of downtown Burien.
